Subject: Mothar Mountain Racing Cancelled for tonight - 29 May 2010

Gympie’s Mothar Mountain Speedway Committee has inspected the circuit this morning and has declared tonight's meeting cancelled.

The decision is due to the persistance of rain in the last 24 hours.

In that time the track surface has absorbed a lot of water, and with more rain forecast, it is unlikely that the track will achieve a safe and usable condition in time for the meeting to proceed.

Our apologies to the many fans, drivers, teams and interested parties for tonight's cancellation, and we'd like to sincerely thank you all for your loyal support throughout the Season.

We'll be back later in the year to do it all again bigger, bolder and more spectacularly for the 2010-2011 Season.

Hi all...

Well our last meeting for the season is here already. How time flies when your having fun. This season has been great for the Club with every meeting being a success. We have played host to two State Titles, Streets and Modified - both bringing the trophys back to Gympie. Congratulations to Tim Atkin and Adian Raymont for their wins. We also hosted Round 2 of the NSSS Supersedan Series which although looked like being rained out, went ahead and was a cracker of a meeting. This was also to be one of the most successful shows of this years tour, and with a bit of luck we may get to host Round 2 again in this coming year. Will keep you posted and let you know later in the year.

Our last meeting of this current Season - on 29th May - should be great with the holding of the Gympie Gold Super Sedan Sizzle with $13000.00 prize money up for grabs.

This will a huge meeting - so in an effort to finish early, will be supported by STREET SEDANS, SUPER STREETS, and ASCF JUNIORS ONLY. This will be also the last round of the Performax International ASCF Junior Series which has seen great support for our club this Season and after the meet, prizes and trophys will be awarded by Brian Learoyd, our major sponsor of the Performax Series. Thanks to Brian for his support this season.

Subject: 2010 Modified Production Title – Gympie

(25/04/10…Pam Franz, QSCA site)

The weather gods certainly were not cooperating with the running of the 2010 Modified Production Title at Gympie this weekend.  Every effort was made by the Gympie Saloon Car Club to get night one on the track with no final decision being made until 630pm to call it off.  Adrian Stott, Gavin Lorensen and Todd Doyle did a test of the track and it was declared too dangerous to continue by the meeting Steward.  The decision was the correct one with drizzle continuing to fall well into the night.

This morning there is a very heavy fog/mist which is normal after a day and night of drizzle in this area.  Both the Gympie Saloon Car Club Officials and  QSCA Officials are hopeful that when the fog/mist lifts there will be a fine day to enable the Title event to be run in its entirety tonight.

This will be a huge night of racing and one not to be missed.  After the wet weather yesterday the track will provide a multi lane surface to race on.

Tonights racing will consist of 5 Rounds of Heats for Modified Productions = 20 heats, the B Main and A Main.  Supporting this program will be Street Sedans, Junior Street Sedans and Super Street Sedans.

Racing will begin from 3pm.  Scrutineering for cars not present last night and re-checks for all other cars will begin at 12 Noon.

Subject: WORKING BEE

(Allan Jennings, President GSCC)

HI there all you loyal club workers.

The club would like to have a working bee on Sunday the 18th April to make sure everything is in order before the upcoming Qld Modified Title.

We need to set up some smoking areas for the bars and pit areas, as well as making sure we are compliant for the liquor licensing rules.

For those that don't know, we had a visit from the Office of Fair Trading and we do not comply with many rules about smoking and licensed bar areas - so we have to fix the problems so we can continue to operate. The more people who turn up, the quicker we get things done. We are starting at about 8.30am.

I would also like to thank everyone for their support over the Easter Weekend. It was a great result for Street Sedans. Good crowds turned up to watch and the bars and canteens did very well. Congratulations to Tim Atkin - another Q 1 to Gympie. Well done Tim and to Josh Harm who has had a great season and to Sarah Franz - the first girl in 25 years to get a podium finish! Let's see if we can bring the Mod title back to Gympie. It will be a cracker!

Kind regards.

Subject: Another Sensational Meeting at Mothar Mountain! I See Red...

As they dominated overseas at Abu Dhabi, the Mighty Holden Roared at Mothar Mountain on Saturday night. The track took its toll on most of the field throughout the heats, keeping crews busy in the pits to get them lined up for the 60 lap final.

The unique 30/30 final format was the first time Gympie Saloon Car Club has hosted such an event, and the massive crowd stayed to the chequered flag. The format utilises the one car with two nominated drivers to post the best position wins in the heats to qualify for the first thirty lap final. Depending where the first driver finishes, governs where the second driver starts the second thirty laps to the chequered flag. With only 10 minutes allowed between the two races to carry out any repairs on the cars, you'd think some clean racing would be in store for the first 30 laps, no way. With 19 cars lined up for the feature event, only 10 cars finished the first thirty laps leaving Brett Baxter to put the #5 commodore on pole for Gary Pagel to start the second race. The second instalment of the final had crowds on their feet before it even started with an all Pagel front row, (Gary and Glen), Todd Doyle and Greg Raymont out of 3rd & 4th. The pressure was on as the flag dropped to get the best start as the track had only one racing line, any efforts outside that would be costly. Gary pagel held on for the first three laps then power steering gremlins turned his commodore into the Titanic and proved to be too much to stay out of the clutches of the menacing duo of Glenn Pagel and Todd Doyle and they continued an all out battle for first position. Stoppage free for the remaining 26 laps, with their two Commodores lapping the field, Todd passed Glenn on the outside at Pagels Corner pulling a rabbit out of his hat on the second last lap and greeted the chequered flag for the first 30/30 win at Mothar Mountain. Glenn Pagel was hot on his tail for second and current Queensland champion, Shane MacDonald came home in third. Todd recorded the fastest lap time for the final.

Support program included the Street Sedans with local driver Darren Lyon qualifying on pole with a good clean run through the heats, it was the first time Darren had started out of one for the Feature, but it wasn't going to be easy with the experienced Neil Keldoulis along side him out of two. Darren got the jump off the start and lead for the majority off the race only to be passed by Neil on the last corner of the last lap as victory was stripped away from him by half a car length in a shortened race. Maryborough drivers Neil and Josh Harm coming in Third and Fourth.

The Performax ASCF Junior Sedans weren't to be outdone. The track suffering from previous heavy rainfall proved quite the challenge for the little cars, however the maturity and calibre of these young drivers was spectacular, with superb representation from our local drivers who provided some great entertainment throughout the heats. Patrick Brennan took out his first heat win of his career and a little later had a unique view of the track from inside his car as he was left upside down at the hairpin after an unfortunate rollover. Thankfully both driver and car remained unscathed and lined up for the Feature with Q1 - Cody Maroske on pole. The local push of Michael Learoyd and his brother Brendon Learoyd along with Patrick Brennan kept the pressure on right to the end, but the resilient Maroske claimed top spot on the podium for the night thanks to great driving skill and a beautifully presented machine.

'Fast and Furious' was the order of proceedings when the open wheeled Formula 500's took to the track with some of the drivers never having raced at Mothar Mountain before. Despite the unfamiliarity, the field soon found set up and sweet spots around the track to pilot these little winged monsters at record breaking lap times per lap. Ex-ASCF Junior Sedans National Champion Charlie Brown showed confidence amongst his peers to finish second to the lightning fast Dale Shilleto who lapped half the field before claiming victory and the end, setting a scorching all-time lap record around the track with a 15.932, beating last year's time by almost a half a second. That's faster than a V8 Super Sedan can get around the track. Nathan Pronger came in a good third.

The Brisbane 4-Cylinder Sedans turned out in a variety of Makes, Models and configurations. They came together to compete admirably, providing the crowd with a variety of winners throughout the heats, and with a reverse grid format on order for the final. Toby Cryer held out with a multitude of challenges to win the feature event.

What a night and into the wee hours of the morning. Feedback at my end has been positive for the 30/30 format. Hopefully we'll see it in other classes of racing too. Thank you to all volunteers around the venue for their efforts, to Bill Fallon for his tractor and Ozzie Corbett for his crane on the infield for help during racing track clearances. We thank the Sponsors for another successful night, and a big thank you to all the Club Committee and Volunteers for without your efforts in preparation and during the Event, we couldn't race.

Yours in Speedway

That makes 23cars - 46drivers and a bunch of door banging.

Each driver will get 2 heats each and then 1x 30 lap feature each. The draw for the heats will be random. The combined points for each team will determine your team's start in the 1st feature. Whatever place your team comes in the 1st feature is where your 2nd driver starts the 2nd feature and the winner of that is the winner.

The 10 minutes driver change-over will be done on the race track along the main straight. You will be able to do what ever to your car in that time, with no limit on staff per car. The only restriction is that in the first 5 minutes no refueling is to take place as to let the cars cool down a bit.

Points towards the Exide Batteries Series will awarded to the nominated driver (not combined). Prize money $1000.00 ,750.00,500.00,350.00,250.00 and $150.00 min money for each team.

Racing Cancelled for 13th March 2010 Meeting Only

(Outcome of Committee Meeting - 28 January 2010)

"Hi all. At a commitee meeting last night, it was decided to cancel our 13th March meeting due to the fact that most of the Committee, track prep staff, transponder personnel and many other people will be in LaTrobe for the Australian Modified Title. Also, Rocky are running a Round of the AMT Series on the same night - so we will have no Super Streets and no Modifieds. But on the up side, April brings a huge amount of racing with 2 State Titles across multiple nights. Firstly, Street Sedans over Easter and Modifieds over Anzac weekend, so heaps of racing on the Mountain in April to make up for March. Hope you see you all there! "

Helmet Standard Update

(NASR Safety Bulletin #1/2010)

The new Snell SA 2010 helmet standard is due to be launched this year so NASR and speedway scrutineers will officially recognise 3 standards:

Snell SA 2010; Snell SA 2005; Snell SA 2000.

However, the SA 2000 standard is due to be phased out next year. On the 1st of July 2011 Snell SA 2000 standard helmets will no longer be approved. Therefore competitors with a Snell SA2000 helmet can continue to use it until the middle of next year.

If you are looking at purchasing a new helmet be sure to ask sales staff about the new Snell SA 2010 standard. Also, all competitors should check the Snell standard of your current helmet so you can be sure yours complies with the NASR minimum safety standards.

If you have any further quesitons, please contact Paul Trengove - NASR Competition & Operations Manager on 08 8139 0777.

Baxter Wins Exide Batteries Brisbane 1000

(Contributed 18/01/10…Pam Franz…story written by Grant Woodhams from Speedway Sedan Digest, QSCA site)

Brett Baxter

Gympie based Modified Sedan driver Brett Baxter drove to one of the best wins of his career at Archerfield Speedway on Saturday January 16th when he led home a stellar field of Queensland and Northern NSW Modifieds to win the Exide Batteries 1000. Qualifying on pole for the 30 Lap Feature, Baxter had first to contend with the pressure of the in form Aidan Raymont and then the rim riding exploits of Qld 1 Shane MacDonald before he drove away to win by the length of the straight.

Baxter was the top qualifier after each driver had three heats. Over thirty drivers contested the three heats that were won by Baxter (2), Shane McDonald (2), Geoff Hayes, Gavin Lorensen, Aidan Raymont, Steve Price, Greg Worling, Nathan MacDonald, Rodney Pammenter and Glen Pagel.

The heats were generally without incident except for the 8th heat which saw Rodney Pammenter roll the CR8 car. Pammenter was o.k. and the car received only minor damage.

The B Main for qualifiers seventeen to thirty saw only eight cars front the starter and the race was won by Lismore’s (NSW) Greg Worling from Gympie’s Steve Cook, driving his converted Super Street car, followed by the Lismore pair of Quinton Clark and Steve Downes.

Twenty cars were set for the 30 Lap Exide Batteries 1000 but before the green flag flew, Mark Raymont was on the infield with a car that failed to start.

At the start Baxter and Aidan Raymont were engaged in a brilliant battle for the lead with Baxter on the inside and Raymont running high and for several laps looking to go around the outside of Baxter. However Baxter, a reasonably recent convert to the Modified world was not fazed by the attention of one of Australia’s best.

Raymont dropped off the pace, as the race was run at a hectic speed, and Shane MacDonald stepped up to the mark, and worked the highline beautifully to close in on Baxter. By mid race he looked to have the car and momentum to make the move, however a broken tail shaft put paid to his hopes and he drove to the infield.

Baxter had moved away from the pack as the race entered its final stages. Glen Pagel was strong in second, Raymont still hanging on in third, Nathan MacDonald who had started out of ten was up to fourth.

Rodney Pammenter who had rolled in heat eight was on the move and out of position thirteen was looking to finish on the podium. In the final stages of the race he passed both MacDonald and Raymont to grab third.

For Baxter it was a well deserved win and he has become in a short period of time one of the hottest prospects in Queensland Modified Sedan racing. The race was a great advertisement for Modified Sedans and its hoped that the Archerfield Promotion will look to run this division again in the near future.

Modified Production Exide Batteries 1000 – Starting Order: Brett Baxter G5, Aidan Raymont G28, Shane MacDonald Q1, Gavin Lorensen G11, Neil Coomber GL11, Glenn Pagel G4, Geoff Hayes L12, Royce Ernst CR14, Mark Raymont G27, Nathan MacDonald CR32, Steve Price SC22, Luke Hollyman C12, Rodney Pammenter CR8, Ashley Barron SB44, Robert Trapp CR23, Jeff Peacock C63, Greg Worling L3, Steve Cook G13, Quinton Clark L81, Steve Downes L6

Placings: Top Five: 1 Brett Baxter G5, 2 Glenn Pagel G4, 3 Rodney Pammenter CR8, 4 Aidan Raymont G28, 5 Nathan MacDonald C32

Round Two Racing of the National Super Sedan Series from Gympie Speedway - delivered up the action just how we like it - Fast and Furious!

Despite the ominous weather, a massive crowd showed support for the Motor Racing at the Mountain last evening. The rain held off till 0215 this morning, and allowed the racing its best opportunity. The track settled well and held up well throughout the heats. A scheduled shaping ahead of the features gave everyone a chance to regroup. The safety and track officials were as usual on their game to keep proceedings on track. Thanks must go to Mark Pagel for the physical track prep and the band of Club volunteers who prepared the facility in top shape. We thank the visiting Officials from our Governing Bodies who went about their duties with quiet proficiency. Thankyou to the Public for your support, the Sponsors, Owners, Drivers, Crews, Officials, Volunteers and all involved for a generally succesful Race Meeting.

Pascoe Too Good In Gympie

Matt Pascoe in Gympie
Matt Pascoe Sweet Chassis

Matt Pascoe stormed to victory in an action packed round two of the 2009/2010 Carline Mufflers National Super Sedan Series at Gympie's Mothar Mountain Speedway on Tuesday night (December 29). After biding his time behind defending champion Darren Kane, Pascoe took his NQ Proline Plasterboard Contractors Sweet-Dodge Avenger to the front with a terrific outside swoop and then survived a series of late-race restarts to emerge victorious.

Aboard a brand new Ian Boettcher Race Parts Dominator-Mazda RX8, Kane qualified on pole position but found himself languishing behind runaway leader Gary Pagel in the opening stages of the race until the latter inexplicably spun to a halt in turn four. Kane assumed the lead at this point before ultimately succumbing to Pascoe's highline swoop to finish in second spot.

After enduring a week of misfortune, Steve Jordan salvaged some joy with a methodical drive into third place ahead of a barnstorming Michael Nicola, who picked up the Super Charge Hard Charger Award after advancing from position 18.

Shane Best finished in fifth spot ahead of Brad Smith, Wayne Miles, Ashley Bergmeier, Chris Jensen and Bill Miller, with Graeme Elliot the only other driver to go the distance.

Following the loss of the opening round to inclement weather, teams gathered in Gympie under threatening skies and, although there was a heavy downpour just a couple of hours before showtime, the race meeting was completed without interruption in front of a very sizeable crowd. The racing, for the most part, was excellent and included some strong performances from several drivers who had never previously visited this utterly unique circuit. Hard luck stories in the feature event included Jamie McHugh and Clayton Pyne, both of whom exited with flat right rear tyres whilst safely ensconced inside the top four. Tony Barklimore was another who endured miserable luck, crashing out on the opening lap after an impressive qualifying performance. Having restarted from the rear, Pagel's race ended against the main straight wall when his East Coast Traffic Control Dominator-Mustang shed a wheel.

In a race of attrition, others who failed to go the distance included Rookie of the Year contenders in Sam Hughes and Trent Wilson, along with local ace Tim O'Shea, South Australia's Dave Gartner, a luckless Steve Pearce and the Ocean Tyres-backed duo of Chris Bussey and Michael Doblo. Two-time national champ Kevin Purton endured a rough and tumble series debut, rolling his Ford Falcon along the main straight in a preliminary heat. Other heat race casualties included Chris Albert, Dale Christensen, Mark Pagel and Des Korn, who looked to have the opening heat wrapped up until a broken axle intervened and ended his night prematurely.

Barklimore got proceedings underway with an impressive win under pressure in the opening preliminary. However, it was Kane who dominated qualifying, securing pole position with two heat wins. Best, Pyne, Pagel, Gartner, Hughes and O'Shea, who was the standout amongst the non-contracted entries before exiting the feature after a restart infringement, also recorded heat victories.

There has been some light sporadic showers on occasion through the day - though not anywhere near enough to threaten the event. It's all go!! And if you're in town, come on out. 0800: Track preparation at the Gympie Speedway was completed well in advance of tonight's round of the National Super Sedan Series. Fortunately, the expected rain that fell on the track overnight has gone to consolidate the hydrometric stabilisation of the track surface. Our Chief track-builder Mark Pagel walked the circuit this morning at around 0800 and inspected the racing surface. His cousin Gary Pagel watched from the track entry gate and when asked what work would be done today to ready the track, his response was - "...we won't let anobody within 50 feet of it till this afternoon." The wealth of knowledge and experience that these two well respected and accomplished Speedway veterans lend to the effort not only offers the facility its greatest chance at holding up to the environmental fluctuations, but guarantees the competitors and spectators the greatest thrill ride night of action packed motor racing fun. "...if it doesn't rain like a monsoon, we'll be right for tonight." The rain is scattered across the South East.

Pictures taken at 0800 this morning reveal the skies above Mothar Mountain as 'patchy'.

Subject: Another Sensational Meeting at Mothar Mountain!

Well the mighty Mothar Mountain gave us an indication of things to come last Saturday night as the track took its toll on the biggest names in speedway racing. The fast and the furious V8 Super Sedans took the mountain in big numbers but were certainly shown who's the boss with some spectacular mishaps down the back straight and when the dust settled it was on again for young and old. With a near capacity crowd attending this fantastic venue, we can't wait for Dec 29 2009 when they're back for the National Round.

Junior Street Sedans got the ball rolling and settled the track in for the nights racing ahead, Brad Jennings and Sam Roza lining up at the pointy end of the field after the heats for the feature event, but a good consistent drive and staying out of trouble was the key to winning as Rohan Lorensen emerged victorious and taking the points. Street Sedan action was second to none, coming back from a huge accident last round, young Benny Foster claimed his maiden heat win with a 2nd and 3rd placing throughout the heats which earned him the right to start from the front row for the feature event. A display of great racing with no stoppages, the 15 lap feature event was fast and exciting, Foster getting caught up in traffic and persistence from the likes of Packer, Cowley and O'Keefe saw packer finishing in top spot with Brandon O'Keefe second and Russel Cowley third, Ben Foster finishing a close fourth.

Modified Production were at there usual high standard of action packed mayhem, though out the heats, local champion Glen Pagel and Brett Baxter lining up on the front row for the 15 lap final. Baxter took the lead of Pagel on lap 5 and lead up to the second last lap until electrical failure got the better of him and Todd Doyle was there to reap in the benefit and take the chequered flag, Local champions Glen Pagel and Gavin Lorensen close behind in second and third.

A capacity crowd was there right to the end to see the monstering V8 Super Sedans on the track for the feature event of the Freightliner series, 16 methanol munching machines let loose in a fury of anger chasing the points which brought the mountain to life and could be heard for miles around. The track held up well for the night and showed that she was force to be reckoned with. within the first four laps, the infield turned into a parking lot with big name runners, Australian champion Darren Kane and Paul Geary out with flat right rear tyres. The field bunched up for a restart and the hits just kept on coming with Dale Christiansen out with power steering gremlins he had been fighting all night, the number of cars on the infield growing allowing Mathew Williams to take the win in some of the best racing action that the mountain has ever seen.

Next meeting (Dec 29 Tuesday night), will be a spectacle that no one would want to miss as Gympie's unforgiving Mothar Mountain plays host to Round 2 of the National Super S edan Series, with up to 50 cars lining up for top honours of this exclusive Series.

Once again thank you to the terrific efforts of all the volunteers in the bars and canteens, the infield and track officials, emergency crews and Mark Pagel for his efforts behind the scenes with the track preparation.

BRING ON DECEMBER THE 29TH (DON'T FORGET ITS A TUESDAY NIGHT)

Thank You All
