Gympie's Mothar Mountain Speedway - Gympie Saloon Car Club - 'The Home of Champions'
A dirt track speedway located in Gympie, is the home of many current and former Queensland, New South Wales and National Champions.
Mothar Mountain Speedway is a unique Australian track in that its undulating 'kidney' shape incorporates a tight hairpin bend. The track's history dates back to the early 1960s. Motorcycles raced around the challenging layout in the early days. Today sees speedway racing in a variety of classes from ASCF Juniors, QSCA Juniors, Street Sedans, Super Street Sedans, Modified Production Sedans, Super Sedans and Formula 500s.
Spectators are well catered with 2 canteens for food and beverage, each with licensed areas, and several viewing stands. Sight lines and viewing is good from the many different points around the track - each having its own very different aspect.
In 2009, the track surface received a further topping of clay resurfacing, making track preparation managable, predictable and reliable.
Gympie's Mothar Mountain Speedway is one great adrenaline-filled thrill-ride of a night out for the whole family!

Subject: Neil Keldoulis Q1 wins in Super Street Sedans Title
The QLD Super Street Title was held on the June long weekend at the Maryborough Speedway. Around 37 cars contested this prestigious event. Conditions were very trying all weekend, with rain causing many delays during the racing.
Finally, on Monday morning with beautiful sunshine, the last remaining heats were completed. The 40 lap final got under way around 2 pm. A stoppage on lap 1 saw the race restarted. (And what a race!) Non stop for 40 laps with some of the closest side by side action I have ever seen. Race favourite Andy Roberts SC 17 was the race leader and lead for about 30 laps. Local Gympie driver Neil Kaldoulis, who started the race from position seven, slowly worked his way up through the massive field of cars to finally run down Roberts in the dying stages of this awesome race to become the new QLD Super Street Sedan Champion.
This brings yet another QLD Title back to Gympie - that makes 3 this season - with Tim Atkin in Street Sedans and Aidan Raymont in Modified Production and Neil Kaldoulis in Super Streets, certainly making Gympie "The true Home Of Champions".
Cheers
- Allan Jennings, President GSCC

Subject: Performax International Junior Sedan Series
It was unfortunate that the last round of the Performax International Junior Sedan Series had to be cancelled due to the last meeting of the season for Gympie being washed out with rain. This was shaping up to be a cracker of a meeting as competitors were battling for the then still not decided final positions.
It was mathematically possible for five drivers to have taken out the top position with a large number of drivers eligible for the minor positions.
These young drivers are the future of our sport and should be proud of themselves for the way they conducted themselves on and off the track, and I, as one off the major sponsors of the series, am proud to be associated with each and every one of these young people.
The $3500 plus worth of prizes and trophies, which were to be presented at this meeting, will now be presented at Gympie’s trophy night on the 31st July 2010. Cody Maroske is to be congratulated for taking out the Series after a very successful season. 11 year old Brendan Learoyd did well to come second with Sam Roza in third. A big thank you to the Gympie Club and all the sponsors for making this series possible. Thank you to Performax International, Beenleigh Muffler and Exhaust, Hydraulic Drilling Service, Col’s firbreglass, Coolum Getaway Resort, T/Mac Auto Spares and Aussie Trackwear.
Below are the final placings and congratulations to all who competed. We hope to see you at the trophy night - if not, will see you all next season.

Subject: Aidan Raymont wins 2010 Modified Production Qld Title
Cooroy Auto Wreckers' star performer Aidan Raymont continued his solid form in conquering a quality field of his peers in a grand battle royale for ultimate supremacy of the Modified Production Class at the Mountain last night.
Following a washed-out first stage the previous night, QSCA and Gympie Saloon Car Club Officials laid out an adjusted program which saw a thorough testing of man and machine in establishing the new Modified Production Q1.
A packed house watched throughout the night as the heats progressed and the field for the decider was finalised.
Steering clear of the usual A-Main carnage, Raymont rolled off the laps competitively and withstood a late challenge from Nathan MacDonald to reinforce his dominance. Coming in a good third was defending Champion Shane MacDonald.

The running of the 25th Street Sedan Title last weekend was a successful night for all 49 competitors, the Gympie Saloon Car Club and the QSCA Inc.
Tim Atkin from the Gympie Club had a weekend of mixed fortunes but was victorious when it counted. Tim started from position 12 in the A Main and drove a cool, calm race taking advantage of opportunities as they presented to gain the lead mid race distance and hold on to the end. Atkin previously won this event in 2008 when it held at Rockhampton.
Josh Harm from the South Burnett Club has only moved into the senior ranks this season is having a great deal of success. Josh came home a solid second in the A Main after succumbing to Atkin whilst leading the race. Josh is a third generation racer from the well known Harm family of Wondai.
Sarah Franz from the Sunshine Coast Club made history when she finished 3rd in the A Main Title event. Sarah is the first girl racer to finish on the podium in the 25 year history of this event. After qualifying in 5th place at the start of the event Sarah maintained a solid line over the 40 laps to finish on the podium. Sarah is the daughter of well known QSCA Licencing Secretary Pam Franz who has been involved in speedway for the duration of Street Sedan racing in Qld.
An improving Josh Arthur came home in 4th place with defending Title holder Scott Thomsen closely behind in 5th.
The QSCA Inc is pleased to see that the future of Street Sedan racing in Qld is healthy and has a great future to look forwad to with so much depth in the up and coming young guns.
In the 25 years of Street Sedan Title events a number of firsts were achieved – 6 girls took part in the event, 3 of whom made it to get an A Main start. The six girls were – Sarah Franz, Tiffany O’Keeffe, Tegan Jennings, Dianne McKeiver, Sonia Budgen and Clair Cook. In much excitement for Dianne McKeiver who openly admits to being a proud grandmother, Dianne successfully transferred from the C Main to the B Main. Tegan Jennings was also excited about finishing in a transfer spot in the B Main to gain a start in the A Main. Unfortunately, Tegan had overheating problems in the A Main and Tiffany lost her exhaust preventing both girls from continuing on in the race.
Engines of the placegetters have been checked in the week following the event and all have been found to meet the required specifications. All positions are now confirmed.

Subject: Street Sedan Qld Title - A Win for Gympie's Tim Atkin
The 25th Qld Street Sedan State Title goes to Tim Atkin.
After qualifying for the final in midfield, and following some fine mechanical repairs by his team during the evening, Tim set about the task of regaining the Title he held a couple of years ago. Holding firm after getting to the front midway through the race and enduring harrowing restart after restart as a consequence of a multitude of yellows, Tim showed what a focussed technician and calm and seasoned competitor he is in showing what was needed to win the Title again.
